One of the things that I’ve found difficult to get my head around is draw length. There is a standard referred to as AMO Draw Length but it’s often unclear whether this is what people are talking about. There are also a number of ways of approximating your draw length that, in my limited experience, seem to be very hit and miss. The reason this is important is because if you buy arrows that are too short you’re only realistic option is to bin them, and arrows aren’t cheap.
The best resource I’ve found for measuring AMO draw length is this video from Merlin Archery in the UK. It’s the only one that clearly shows how to measure using a measuring arrow. Following the steps in the video I determined that I had to measure to the middle of the Berger hole which is the same as shown. I suspect this is that case with most risers, it’s certainly true of the three risers I have access to.
I took three measurements but I forgot to tell my partner they needed to have the pressure button in the photo so there’s some approximating needed. The photos are shown below.

The three measurements to the pressure button are 25.5″, 25.5″ (under), 25.25″. This is with my regular draw which is a weird location on my chin. The under note means it’s factionally under 25.5″ but not the next measurement down. I’m going to say this averages to 25.5″ as a slightly longer arrow is better than too short. To get my AMO draw length I need to add 1.75″ which gives me a final draw length of 27.25″.
